Minimum Requirements:

·         Preferably a minimum of three to five years experience in coal fired power stations

·         Demonstrated experience in engineering and operations of coal fired power stations with special emphasis on successfully integrating modern and original equipment technology

·         Previous supervisory experience managing people in an engineering driven environment

·         Experience in assessing or improving the remnant life of power plants

·         Professional Engineering degree or equivalent

·         Proven analytical ability

·         Good knowledge and understanding of budgeting practices

·         Specialized knowledge and understanding of power plant processes and associated plant machinery and equipment

·         Possession of Government Certificate of Competency for Factories and Machinery is highly desirable

·         PC Skills, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Outlook, Maximo

·         Good general health, capable of accessing all parts of the plant

Qualifications and Experience

Key Performance Areas

 

·         Assume responsibility to provide technical expertise and oversight of the Auxiliary Plant Section, thereby ensuring maintenance, improvement projects and systems engineering initiatives are effective in sustaining short term and long term availability of the auxiliary plant equipment

·         Assume responsibility to provide technical expertise and oversight of the Central Services Section, thereby ensuring maintenance, improvement projects and systems engineering initiatives are effective in sustaining short term and long term availability of the Kelvin central services, structures and equipment

·         Assume responsibility to provide technical expertise and oversight of the Coal and Ash Section, thereby ensuring maintenance, improvement projects and systems engineering initiatives are effective in sustaining short term and long term availability of the Kelvin coal and ash equipment

·         Assume responsibility to provide technical expertise and oversight of the Fire Systems Section, thereby ensuring maintenance, improvement projects and systems engineering initiatives are effective in sustaining short term and long term availability of the Kelvin fire systems and equipment

·         Ensure compliance with statutory inspection and testing requirements

·         Ensure that the auxiliary plant is operated and maintained in accordance with the OHS Act

·         Ensure that the fire systems are operated and maintained in accordance with OHS Act and stakeholder requirements

·         Assume technical responsibility for the auxiliary plant Safety programs including design, implementation, review and compliance

·         Perform incident investigations, root cause analysis of auxiliary plant failures and the development and execution of solutions

·         Assume technical responsibility to provide senior management and oversight for all engineering and enhancement projects, including budgeting, motivation, execution and reporting results

·         Perform work scope, adjudication of contracts, contract content, and final acceptance of Auxiliary Plant Engineering contracts in consultation with other departments

·         Take responsibility for relevant EPC contracts, act as custodian to ensure compliance, changes and approvals are adequately reviewed and records are kept

·         Assist with identifying, managing and mitigating Kelvin Power Risks in conjunction with senior management.

·         Provide technical expertise, communicate and liase with the Laboratory, Auxiliary Plant, Fire Systems, Coal and Ash and SHE Team Leaders and Managers in order to successfully:

o   Develop and implement maintenance procedures for all Kelvin auxiliary plant and equipment in accordance with Good Industry Practice

o   Develop and implement maintenance procedures for all Kelvin civil structures and vehicles in accordance with Good Industry Practice

o   Develop and implement procedures for the operation and testing of the auxiliary plant and ensure staff are fully conversant in the procedures in accordance with Good Industry Practice

o   Develop and implement operations and maintenance training requirements

o   Ensure technical information is up to date and correct

o   Monitor and improve the auxiliary plant performance in accordance with design specifications to achieve optimum plant life

o   Develop and review the stocking of strategic spares

o   Compile, analyze and provide advice on auxiliary plant failure statistics

o   Develop work scopes for planned and forced outages

o   Assist with the developing of Annual Production and Outage Plans

·         Perform assigned responsibilities to ensure all assigned tasks are carried out accurately and timeously

·         Constructively participate and contribute to the annual budgeting process

·         Assume responsibility for cost control and accurate forecasting of Auxiliary Plant Engineering expenditure and project budgets

·         Provide a written monthly report to the Auxiliary Plant Engineering Manager addressing past progress, current status and future projects

·         Ensure inclusion of budgetary impacts

·         Actively participate in the preparation, construction implementation and reporting of the Kelvin Annual Operating Plan

·         Assist in developing and improving practices and procedures on an on-going basis in step with modern technology and experience gained

·         Actively participate and encourage good housekeeping, teamwork and upholding of superior standards

·         Be flexible and willing to learn and assist in all aspects of operations, project management and maintenance

 

Remuneration

 

Market related depending on qualification and experience.
